What makes a great city?

What makes a great city? Is it the shops? The restaurants? The local arts centre? Is it the grassy areas for working lunches, or the latest nightclubs? In his latest film “Urbanized”, Gary Hustwitt (Helvetica, Objectified) aims to find out where city development fails, and why there are certain cities that people want to live in. As Joshua Leon so perfectly writes in his Metropolis review, “Urbanized is an extraordinarily ambitious attempt to make sense of a world flowing into cities. This visually arresting film, like Hustwitt’s past work, elegantly conveys the omnipresence of design in daily life.” The film is now available to rent on iTunes and you can watch the trailer here. If you have any interest in where you live, this is essential viewing.
