Prometheus movie review

Prometheus poster

Ridley Scott apparently never intended for this to be an all out Alien prequel but the comparisons are unavoidable. Scott and Geiger’s extraordinary ideas and designs are present and correct, as is the strong female crew member, enigmatic android and things coming out of chests. Fine so far. But Alien’s other strengths were its simplicity and restraint and this is where Prometheus falls short. Marc Streitenfeld’s glossy soundtrack is intrusive and dilutes the tension, plot explanations feel forced and unnecessary, even some major characters feel confusingly redundant. But make no mistake this is a solid piece of Ridley Scott on display with enough action, suspense and breathtaking set pieces to keep things interesting. Watch it as Ridley intended, “a separate story sharing Alien’s DNA” and you won’t be disappointed. PL.
